Due to climate change, a large number of forested areas in Germany are suffering from extreme drought and a rapid infestation by the bark beetle. The Taunus, in the direct neighbourhood of the artist's home, is no exception. When large-scale clearing work began there in 2020, Hartmann decided to document the condition and transformations of the forest. Using double exposure on location and in camera, she inscribes the signs of the damages in the forest, such as dry spruce needles, tree barks devoured by bark beetles and eroded forest paths, in her landscape photographs.

As the thoroughly ambiguous title of the work suggests, one can look at the subject from different perspectives: one can observe the loss of nature with concern or welcome newly gained views into the surrounding countryside and a possible end to the monoculture forest.

Aufgrund des Klimawandels leiden viele Wälder in Deutschland unter extremer Trockenheit und einem rasanten Befall durch den Borkenkäfer. Der Taunus, in unmittelbaren Nachbarschaft des Wohnortes der Künstlerin, ist da keine Ausnahme. Als dort 2020 großflächige Rodungsarbeiten begannen, beschloss Hartmann, den Zustand und die Veränderungen des Waldes zu dokumentieren. Mittels Doppelbelichtung vor Ort und in der Kamera schreibt sie die Waldschäden, wie trockene Fichtennadeln, von Borkenkäfern zerfressene Baumrinden und erodierte Waldwege in ihre Landschaftsaufnahmen ein.

Wie der durchaus doppelsinnig gemeinte Titel der Arbeit andeutet, kann man aus verschiedenen Perspektiven auf das Thema schauen: man kann den Verlust der Natur mit Sorge beobachten oder aber neu gewonnene Ausblicke ins Umland und ein mögliches Ende des Monokulturenwaldes begrüßen.
